Verity Ockenden of Salisbury took a good third place in the Great Britain team at a top international 10,000m fixture contested by the best of Europe’s distance athletes on the track at Parliament Hill in London.
Her time of 32min 34.5sec improved her best by a big margin of almost a minute, placed her 12th overall and secured gold medal position for the GB squad in the European Cup competition.
At the up-and-coming end of the sport, City of Salisbury young athletes turned out in force for the fourth and final Wessex League fixture of the summer to earn the club second place overall after a string of good performances.
Among the highlights, at the under 13’s high jump Megan Thomas took a win with the bar at 1.43m and Will Barnard was best in the javelin with 33.66m.
In the same age group, Harry Jordan and Isaac Routledge took first and second places in the 800m. Caleb Etheridge was second in the 200m with a time of 28.6sec.
For the under 15’s, Sophie Cowey won the 200m and was second in the 300m. Evelyn Routledge placed third in the shot put with 8.47m and Guy Mitchell also took a third place with 4min 56.4sec in the 1500m.
Molly Hole continued her winning form by winning the high jump and Ellie Yarwood was second.
