Rob and Sam show the way at Solent half

Personal bests at the 13.1 mile distance by the leaders of the City of Salisbury's men's and women's A teams were the hallmark at the Solent half marathon near Southampton.

For the men, Rob Drag scored a one minute improvement on his previous mark when he stopped the clock at 1hr 17min 10sec for third place overall in the Hants road league fixture.


Then came Matt Sherfield in 1.22.01, James Mills 1.25.06 and Peter Callanan 1.28.39 to complete the A quartet.


In the women's race, Samantha Hibdige clipped more than two minutes off her previous best with a great run of 1.34.41, and she was followed by Anna Patrickson in 1.39.18 and Kara Rogers 1.50.27 for the A team point scorers.


The men's B team comprised Jonathan Croom 1.28.45, Mike White 1.30.39, Richard Larcombe 1.34.15 and Craig Weatherburn 1.35.15, while for the women the B team honours went to Mel Murphy 1.52.20, Linda Robson 1.52.31 and Rachel Bala 1.54.27.


Mark Hankins with 1.35.21 was first of the men's C team, supported by Jon Kershaw 1.40.57, Craig Murphy 1.41.10 and Andy Budgell 1.41.17.

For the women's C team Jane Whiteley was quickest with 1.54.34 then came Jackie Hassan 1.57.27 and Helen Carlton 2.00.17.


Derek Wood led the way for the men's D team with 1.46.00, then came Kevin O'Leary 1.49.02, Lindsay Kirk 1.50.27 and Barry Vincent 2.00.26 and for the women's D team the trio were Rebecca Lockwood 2.02.07, Lisa Milner 2.03.58 and Jackie Cheblowski 2.16.44.


Other Salisbury finishers were as follows: Colin Martin 2.19.37 (finishing second in his age category), Shelley Tolcher 2.23.27, Richard Bidmead 2.24.43, Lisa Phaure 2.24.56 and James Patrickson 2.24.57.


In a swim-cycle-run 'sprint triathlon' over 70.3 miles at Weymouth, Ruth Thom finished well up the field in a creditable 3hrs 27min 44 secs, and ploughing a lone marathon furrow at Goodwood, Phil Perry clocked 3.36.00.

Matt Bosworth, as part of a military team of 4 took part in Trailwalker UK, a 100km event along the South Downs. The hilly course was completed in 14 hours 14 mins which secured a team place of 18th out of 570 teams and individually 65th out of 1655.


Meanwhile, flying the CoSARC flag internationally, Denise Von Roretz completed the Disneyland Paris (run Disney) 5K, 10K and Half Marathon in 36:39, 1:14:51 and 2:47:32 respectively.
