Jacob Raises The Bar

Jacob Earle smashed the U15 Boys Javelin record by nearly three metres, when he threw it 43.27 metres at the Wessex League meeting in Andover. This achievement is all the more incredible because the record he smashed was set in 2005, before he was born !!!

The Big Way Round Ultra Marathon 50K is an endurance race that is not for the faint hearted. The route was mainly on off road trails, with lots of mud and plenty of hills. Runners were helped on their way by four well stocked aid stations dispensing snacks and drinks to enable them to refuel on the run. Colin Warrington did superbly well to finish in 7hrs 22 mins. Vicki Crossland ran well in the tough19 mile race to finish in 3hrs 40mins 45secs. The 14 mile race was no less tough for Vanessa Hobbs, who finished in 3hrs 04mins 56secs.

It was a great day for the Holme’s brothers, especially Joseph achieving PBs in his first four events.

Dad, Andy Holme, competed in the Senior Men’s Decathlon. Day 1 consisted of five events. He finished the day in the 6th place after some sterling performances - 100m 14.07, Long Jump 4.82m, Shot 6.93m (PB), High Jump 1.53m, and 400m 62.60.

On Day 2 they competed in mostly wet and miserable conditions, which included a downpour during the High Jump. Next up was the High Jump, when the heavens opened up !! Despite the weather both boys did very well - Thomas cleared 1.49m and Joseph 1.46m (PB). There was another PB for Joseph in the Shot putt with a throw of 7.07m, while Thomas threw 6.92m. Both boys crowned a successful event with PBs in the final event, the 1,500m, with Thomas 4.54 only half a second ahead of Joseph 5.06. Thomas finished in 7th place, with Joseph in 9th. To illustrate rate the standard of the competition, the winner is currently ranked in the top 10 in Europe.
