Cross country wins for Salisbury athletes

Grace Cousins, Dave Amey, Emma Clarke and Charlotte Boardman

Successes at cross country came thick and fast for City of Salisbury’s younger athletes contesting the Wiltshire championships in Bath.
Daisy Sears won the under 11’s county title, with Neve Cousins 3rd and Sophie Wood 6th, while in the boys’ race the winner was Charlie Coles with Jacob Earle 3rd and Art Mitchell 5th.
Sophie Nicholls was winner of the under 13’s event and Bea Wood took the under 15’s title while Lukas Bailey was second in the boys’ race.
Jaymee Domoney was third in the men’s under 20’s and Richard Davidson took 12th in the senior men’s race and second in his age category. Other finishers were Steve Mitchell 32nd, Chris Maple 33rd and Gary Domoney 37th.
The club’s senior women were led by Emma Clarke in 8th, followed by Charlotte Boardman 16th and Grace Cousins 23rd.
At the European cross country championships in Holland, Verity Ockenden was part of the second-placed Great Britain senior women’s squad, finishing in 20th spot overall in slippery conditions underfoot.
Christmas puddings were on the prize list for the seasonal Christchurch 10k and among the winners were Salisbury’s Reece and Charlotte Ingram.
They both added to their haul by recording their quickest times for distance, 37min 30sec and 42.16 respectively, Charotte’s run taking second women’s place overall.
They were followed by Ian Lawrence 41.25, Anna Patrickson 47.47, Andrew Baston 52.06 and Mary Clements 69.14.
