Only three seconds separated City of Salisbury athletics club’s Jaymee Domoney from a new record time for the 5k parkrun at Churchill Gardens on Saturday, and only two runners at the 550 parkruns now in existence throughout the UK went faster than he did on the day.
In hot sunshine that many participants found too much for speed, Domoney flew round the twisting, three laps to clock a notable 15min 25sec, slicing nearly 20 seconds off his previous best for the course.
Clubmate Richard Davidson’s 17.47 earned him a fine PB too for second place, and Salisbury parkrun stalwart Lee Syrett also went close to his best with 17.55 for third spot.
Sophie Nicholls from the Salisbury club, with age on her side in the 11-14 year-old listings, was quickest girl with a good PB 20.32.
At the other end of the age range, Tom Bradley was timed at a steady 28.36 while among the women Josephine Whyte completed the distance in 54.30.
There were around 400 finishers in all, and a total of 32 volunteers made it all possible.
