CoSarc runners on the road to Hants league success

The Eastleigh 10k, one of the south region’s most fiercely contested short distance road league races, saw City of Salisbury men’s A team take an outstanding second place behind much bigger rivals Southampton AC.
Shaun Brown led the charge with a 33min 47sec run, and he was followed by Stuart Holloway in 33.56, Aaron Wilson 34.28 and James Hassan with a fine personal best of 35.33 to complete the team.
Another of the day’s pb’s came from Ruth Thom who led the ladies’ A team home with a first-class 39.40, taking third place in her age group. Also third in her group was Sarah Brewster with 45.20, and Heather Hitchins’ pb 48.04 completed the high performance trio.
Rob Drag with 35.51pb set the pace for the men’s B squad, supported by Lee Syrett 37.38, Mike Brewster 38.29 and Jonathan Croom 39.36, and the ladies B team comprised Linda Robson 51.14, Liz Roberts 51.20 and Melanie Simpson 53.01.
Other Salisbury finishers among the field of nearly 3,000 were Peter Callanan 39.44, John Duffy 41.07, Richard Larcombe 42.30, Pete Harris 43.37, Derek Wood 45.13, Phil Perry 45.35, Steve Mitchell 46.01, Nick Willetts 47.06, Barry Vincent 47.22pb, Jon Kershaw 47.44 and Paul Slaughter 49.15.
Then came Di Cross 53.49, Jane Whiteley 53.52, Marie Shone 55.37, Jackie Hassan 55.43, Mel Holloway 55.46, Fi Thatcher 57.21, Denise von Roretz 58.08pb, Jon Greenhalgh 58.11, Lesley Brown 61.02, Jenny Weatherburn 62.37 and Colin Martin 64.14.
Next Sunday sees the club in numbers at the Lordshill, the road race league’s final event of the season that will decide both promotions and individual overall placings.
Joe Cornwall ran an excellent 95min 10sec to win the Race for Men half marathon at Hudson’s Field with his best racing performance to date, Mike White taking a good second in 95.33, Jason Bennett 101.51 and Craig Murphy 109.59.
In the 10k event Marc Hankins was the club’s quickest in 48.21, then came John Chamberlain 50.38, Andy Webb 53.49, Stuart Wood 54.47, Colin Warrington 54.43, Paul Holt 56.38, David Smith 59.18, and Nick and Jackson Cooke both 67.30.
